About
Julien Jelali (27 years old) is a lyric tenor who has been passionate about classical music and singing since a young age.
His artistic journey began at the Maîtrise of the ONR (Opéra National du Rhin), where, from the age of 8, he honed his choral skills and performed roles such as the Child in Weill’s Der Jasager, Gavroche in Charpentier’s Louise, and Duke Richard of York in Battistelli’s Richard III.
He continued his training at the Conservatoire of Colmar with Chantal Studer, where in May 2025 he obtained his DEM (Diplôme d’Études Musicales) in singing with highest honors and jury congratulations.
Julien began his lyric career with roles such as the High Priestess in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas at the Opéra National du Rhin, and Cupid in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld (Brin de Folie, Strasbourg). He also stood out as a solo countertenor in Handel’s Messiah, accompanied by the Orchestre du Rhin at Strasbourg Cathedral.
He then chose to return to his natural tenor register, allowing him to explore a new range of roles and further develop his voice.
In 2023 and 2024, he performed Polidoro in Mozart’s La Finta Semplice, Jean Poirot in La Jolie Parfumeuse, and Cacatois XXII in Offenbach’s L’Île de Tulipatan. He also participated in the 37th Bel Canto Competition in Béziers, reaching the semi-finals.
Since September 2024, Julien has joined the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège as a chorus artist, collaborating on several prestigious productions.
